고교-대학 간 지역 이동이 대학 신입생의 학교생활 적응에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구는 학령인구 감소와 지방소멸 위기가 지속되는 상황에서 대학 진학 시 지역을 이동하는 학생들에 주목하여 대학 입학 초기 학업적 성과와 경제적 비용을 실증적으로 분석하였다. 분석을 위해 한국교육고용패널Ⅱ(KEEPⅡ)의 1-3차년도 자료를 활용하여 통상최소자승회귀분석(Ordinary Least Square)과 함께 고교-대학 소재지 일치 여부에 따른 표본 선택 편의(Sample selection bias)를 해소하고자 경향점수매칭(Propensity Score Matching)을 활용한 분석을 실시하였으며, 주요 연구 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 대부분의 시도에서 고교-대학 소재지 일치 비율이 가장 높은 것으로 나타났지만 시도별 편차가 존재하며, 인접 지역을 제외하고는 수도권인 서울, 경기 지역으로 이동하는 비율이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, 고교-대학 간 지역 이동을 한 학생들의 대학 입학 초기 성적과 전공 만족도가 높았으며, 대학 만족도에는 차이가 없었다. 셋째, 고교-대학 간 지역 이동을 할 경우 경제적 비용 측면에서 주거비 본인부담율이 높았으며, 월평균 생활비에는 차이가 없는 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구는 고교-대학 간 지역 이동 여부에 따라 학생들의 대학 초기 적응 양상이 다르게 나타남을 확인하였으며, 이러한 연구 결과를 바탕으로 학생들의 지역 이동 여부에 따라 원활한 적응과 학업 성과 제고를 위한 정책적 지원이 필요함을 제언하였다.

This study empirically analyzed the academic performance and economic costs in the early stages of college, focusing on students moving to different regions when entering college. Using data from the Korea Employment Education Panel II(KEEP II), an analysis using Propensity Score Matching was conducted to resolve the sample selection bias according to the matching of the high school-university location, and the main research results are as follows. First, in most regions, the rate of non-movement in the high school-university area was the highest, but there were variations by city and province, and the rate of movement to the metropolitan areas of Seoul and Gyeonggi-do was high. Second, students who moved to the region had high grades and major satisfaction. Third, when moving to a region, the housing cost burden ratio was high, and there was no difference in the average monthly living cost. This study confirmed that students' initial adaptation to college was different depending on whether or not they moved to the region, and it was suggested that policy support was needed to adapt to college life and improve academic performance depending on whether students moved to the region.
