벌점화 회귀모형을 적용한 대학신입생의 학업부진에 영향을 미치는 변인 탐색

Abstract

본 연구는 대학신입생의 학업부진에 영향을 미치는 변인을 탐색하고자 수행되었다. 이를 위하여 한국교육고용패널(KEEP)Ⅱ 3차년도(2018년, 대학교 1학년)데이터에 빅데이터 분석 시 활용되는 머신러닝기법 중 하나인 벌점화 회귀모형 중 라쏘(LASSO, Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator)를 적용하였다. 분석 결과, 대학신입생의 학업부진에 영향을 미치는 변인 탐색을 위해 모형에 투입한 120개 변인 중 21개의 변수가 관련변수로 선택되었다. 구체적으로, 선행연구에서 학업부진과 관련 있는 변인으로 도출되었던 성별, 학과선택요인(본인의 적성과 희망), 장학금 수혜, 대학시설-컴퓨터 사용 환경, 학교생활-학생상담, 학생의견반영, 기초학습프로그램 제공, 일주일평균 혼자 전공 공부하는 시간, 학과만족도, 여가시간, 여가시간 활동 빈도(동아리·동호회/종교 활동), 흡연 변인이 선택되었다. 그 외, 진로/직업탐색 전공과목 수강, 창업과목수강, 타문화권 사람 이해, 자신에 대한 질문, 성격검사 등의 변인이 새롭게 도출되었으며 여가시간 활동 빈도(인터넷서핑), 음주 변인이 기존의 선행연구와는 달리 학업부진에 부적인 영향이 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 연구결과를 토대로 시사점 및 후속연구를 위한 제언을 제시하였다.

The purpose of this study was to explore factors affecting under achievement of freshman at University. Thus, Lasso(Least Absolute Shrinkage and Selection Operator) penalized regression model, one of the machine learning techniques used in big data analysis was applied to the Korea Education and Employment Panel(KEEP)Ⅱ 3rd wave dataset. The results are as follows. Among 120 variables, 21 variables were finally selected as influencing variables. Specifically, ‘gender’, ‘major choice factor(self-interest)’, ‘scholarship’, ‘college facilities-computer environment’, ‘school life-student counseling’, ‘student opinion reflection’, ‘basic learning program provision’, ‘weekly average study time alone’, ‘department satisfaction’, ‘leisure time’, ‘frequency of leisure activities(club/religious activities)’, and ‘smoking’ were selected as influencing variables which have been reported in previous literature. Variables such as ‘career exploration major courses’, ‘start-up courses’, ‘understanding people from other cultures’, ‘questions about themselves’, and ‘personality tests’ were newly derived as influencing variables. ‘Frequency of leisure activities(Internet surfing)’, ‘drinking’ were negatively related to low achievement of freshman with different results from previous literature. Based on these results, the implications of this study were discussed.
