출신 대학이 노동시장 성과에 미치는 영향 분석: 수도권-비수도권 대학 비교를 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구에서는 한국교육고용패널(KEEP)Ⅰ 고등학생 코호트 자료를 활용하여, 수도권 소재 대학의 졸업생과 비수도권 소재 대학의 졸업생이 노동시장에 진출한 첫 직장에서의 임금에 차이가 존재하는지를 실증 분석하였다. 특히 수도권 소재 대학으로의 진학을 선택한 것에 대한 편의를 조정하기 위해 성향점수짝짓기 방법을 활용하였으며, 상위권 대학 진학에 대한 인적자본 수준을 통제하고자 수능 등급을 한정하여 분석을 수행하였다. 매칭자료를 활용한 분석에서는 수도권 소재 대학 졸업의 임금효과 및 수도권 직장 취업의 임금효과 등 거의 모든 효과가 통계적으로 유의하지 않은 것으로 추정된 바, 수도권 소재 대학의 졸업여부가 노동시장 성과에 크게 영향을 미치지 않음을 유추할 수 있었다. 이상의 결과로부터, 출신 대학이 노동시장 성과에 유의미한 영향을 미칠 수 있음을 일부 인정한 일부 이론들이 현실에서 작동하지 않을 가능성이 있음을 유추해볼 수 있었다.

In this study, using KEEP I high school cohort data, it was empirically analyzed whether there is a difference in wages between graduates of universities in metropolitan areas and graduates of universities in non-metropolitan areas in the first job they entered the labor market. In particular, the propensity score matching method was used to adjust the selection bias to go to a university in the metropolitan area. In the analysis using matching data, it was estimated that almost all effects, such as the effect of graduating from a university in the metropolitan area on wage and the effect of employment in the metropolitan area on wage, were not statistically significant. It can be inferred that graduation from universities in the metropolitan area does not significantly affect labor market performance. From the results, it was possible to infer that some of the theories that the university of origin can have a significant influence on the labor market performance may not work in reality.
