상향이동의 부산물: 세대간 소득을 유지한 사람과 상향이동을 성취한 사람의 차이에 관하여

Abstract

본 연구는 한국노동패널조사(이하 KLIPS)와 한국교육고용패널조사(KEEP) 데이터를 활용하여 세대 간 상향이동을 경험하는 사람들이 겪는 어려움에 대하여 분석하였다. 분석 결과 현재 소득이 유사한 수준일 경우 세대 간 상향이동을 경험한 집단이 세대 간 상향이동을 경험하지 않은 집단에 비해 결혼을 경험할 확률이 낮은 것으로 나타났다. 또한 상향이동을 경험한 집단은 교제경험과 수면 시간이 적은 것으로 나타났다. 시간 사용 혹은 특정한 경험의 차이뿐만 아니라 주관적 인식의 차이도 확인할 수 있었다. 세대 간 상향이동을 경험한 집단은 다른 집단에 비해 가족과 친구의 중요성을 낮게 판단하거나 스스로를 부정적으로 평가하는 경향이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 본 연구의 분석 결과는 상향이동을 성취하기 위해서는 여가, 교제 활동, 수면 시간 등에 대한 비용이 수반될 수 있음을 보여준다.

This study analyzed the difficulties experienced by people experiencing upward mobility by using data from the Korea Labor & Income Panel Survey and the Korea Education and Employment Panel Survey. we found that the group that experienced upward mobility had a lower probability of marriage than the group that did not experience upward mobility. In addition, we found that the group that upward mobility had less dating experience and less sleep time. Not only differences in time use or dating experience, but also differences in subjective perception were found. we found that group that experienced upward mobility have lower importance of family and friends and evaluate themselves negatively compared to other groups. These results show that achieving upward mobility may involve costs for leisure, social activities, and sleep time.
