사회문화적 자원으로서 동아리활동이 학업성취에 미치는 영향

Abstract

한국직업능력개발원의 교육고용패널 1차년도와 2차년도 자료를 이용한 인문계 고등학생 790명을 대상으로 한 이번 연구는 학업성취도에 영향을 미치는 가족배경변수 이외에 사회문화적 자본에 해당하는 변수들이 학업성취도에 긍정적으로 작용할 수 있을 것인지를 탐색하였다. 학업성취와 관련된 변수들로는 개인적 변수, 가족배경변수, 가정과 학교 지역사회의 사회문화적 자원 변수들을 고려하였다. 학업성적에 영향을 미치는 요인으로는 여전히 가족 배경변수 아버지의 학력, 사교육비가 중요하며, 부모의 관심도가 이들 변수와 상호작용하여 학업성취도에 긍정적으로 기여함을 발견하였다. 가족외 환경에 존재하는 사회문화적 자원 변수로 간주된 동아리활동이 오히려 학업성취도에는 부정적임을 발견하였다. 신호감지분석(signal detection analysis) 방법에 의해 개인변수, 가족변수, 사회문화적 변수의 다중상호작용 방식이 분석되었으며, 그 결과 사교육비와 부모의 관심도는 개인변수나 가족변수가 가질 수 있는 부정적인 효과를 완화시킬 수 있는 중요한 변수임이 발견되었다.

This study explored the effects of personal, familial and sociocultural variables on the academic performance. The date used for the study was the first and second KEEP(Korean Education and Employment Panel) data. The sample was consisted of 790 high school students. The results showed that the familial background variables, especially father's education and private tutors, were still very important factors on the academic performance. Among sociocultural capital factors, only parents' concern for the children positively interacted with familial background factors. Unexpectedly extracurricular activities, which were considered as sociocultural capital outside the family context, were negatively related to the academic performance. Based on the signal detection analysis, private tutors and parental concerns for the children alleviated the negative effects of familial background.
