대학생들의 학업 지속/이동 결정에 대한 탐색적 분석 : 대학선택 요인과 대학생활 경험의 영향

Abstract

이 연구는 한국교육고용패널(KEEP) 자료의 기준연도 자료와 1차, 2차 추수조사 자료를 이용하여 대학생들의 학업 지속/이동 실태를 파악하고, 관련 변인들의 영향력을 분석하였다. 특히 대학선택 요인과 대학생활 경험 수준의 영향력을 분석하고자 하였다. 분석 결과 재수나 졸업이전 편입학 계획을 가질 가능성은 가구 소득이 높을수록, 전문대학보다는 4년제 대학생들일수록 더 높았다. 반면, 대학생활 만족도가 높은 학생들은 이동 계획을 가지고 있을 가능성이 낮았다. 실제 학생들의 재학 여부와 이동 결과를 살펴보면, 전문대학 학생보다는 4년제 대학생들이 최초 학교나 학과에서 이동하는 비율이 더 높았다. 또한 입학 당시 적성보다는 성적을 고려하여 대학과 학과를 선택한 학생들이 1년 후 다른 학교나 학과로 이동할 가능성이 좀 더 높은 것으로 나타났으며, 재수나 편입 계획이 있는 학생들이 실제로 다른 대학으로 이동할 가능성이 높았다. 그러나 학업중단자의 경우는 학업 이동과 다른 양상을 보여주고 있다. 여학생보다는 남학생들이, 일반계 졸업생 보다는 실업계 졸업생이, 4년제 대학 진학자보다는 전문대학 진학자들의 학업 중단에 이를 가능성이 높았다. 학업중단의 가능성은 학생들의 대학생활 만족도가 높을 때 감소하는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과는 성적 위주의 진학이 아닌 충실한 진로 지도가 이루어질 필요성이 있으며, 대학에 진학한 학생들에게 좀 더 만족감을 줄 수 있는 대학 경험을 제공할 필요가 있다는 점을 시사한다.

This article explores the process of student mobility and investigates the influence of relevant factors in the context of higher education of Korea. The data are used from the Korea Education and Employment Panel data(KEEP). The results are reported as follows. An amount of students will plan to transfer the other university and college, and actually they accomplished it for 1 year. The variables of student backgrounds, for example, parent education and income, are positively influence on increasement of probability of student movement. And the students enrolled 4-year university have higher probability for moving into other institute rather than those of 2-year college. In the process of college entrance, the choice of university or college based on students' grades increases the probability for student to move into other university and college after entering that institute. Besides, the high level of satisfaction with higher education makes students stay to study at their first institution. These results imply that the more appropriate career guide program is needed in high-school stage and the educational program should be improved to satisfy students in tertiary educational institutes.
