Abstract

The purpose of this study is to empirically analyzes the outcomes of career education at the schools, provincial, and individual levels, and to derive policy tasks based on the findings. This involves conducting literature reviews on the policies and systems of elementary and secondary career education, both domestically and internationally. We also examined career development theory from ecological perspectives and the theory of school social system, which underpins the theoretical foundation of career education outcomes. Through this analysis, we identify the interactive impact of career education on schools, local educational institutions, and various systems and policies affecting individual development. The analysis was further enriched by reviewing previous studies that evaluated the performance of career education in real life settings using relevant indicators. Our findings reveal that career education has yielded positive outcomes at the individual, school, and provincial levels. Firstly, school-level performance significantly contributes to fostering students’ career development competencies. Secondly, factors, such as dedicated spaces for career education, the appointment rate of career-education teachers, and participation rates in career experiences, effectively influence students’ career development competencies at the city and provincial levels. Thirdly, individual-level analysis demonstrates that school-based career activities positively impact individual career development competencies, which in turn further enhance satisfaction with college life, job/work satisfaction in the labor market, high alignment with chosen majors, and average monthly wages. ...
