일반계 고등학생의 비교과 영역 발달수준 결정요인 : 수상경력과 임원경험을 중심으로

Abstract

본 연구는 입학사정관제 전형 확대로 인해 최근 그 중요성이 부각되고 있는 비교과 영역 중 고등학교 교사들이 학생 잠재력 평가 1순위로 꼽은 수상경력(김석우, 2009)과, 자치활동 중 임원경험에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 구명하였다. 연구결과, 교내 수상여부는 학업성취도, 자기 효능감, 독서향유, 부모학력, 자녀에 대한 기대교육 수준, 교사와의 관계에 영향을 받는 것으로 나타났다. 교외수상은 학업성취도와 부적인 관계로 나타났으나, 성별과 학교 내 진로교육 수준에 추가적으로 영향을 받고 있었다. 한편, 재학 중 임원경험 여부에는 학업성취도와 자기 효능감, 부모의 학교참여도, 자녀에 대한 기대교육 수준, 가구소득과 부모학력 그리고 교사와의 관계 사이의 상호작용 항이 유의한 영향력을 미치는 것으로 밝혀졌다. 요컨대, 학업성적이 좋고 가정배경 수준이 높은 학생들이 비교과 영역에서도 높은 성취수준을 달성하고 있었다. 이상의 연구결과는 학생들에 대한 평가의 절차적 공정성(procedural justice) 확보를 위한 정부와 학교 당국 차원의 적극적인 노력이 필요함을 시사한다. 아울러 학업성적이 떨어지는 학생들이 교외에서 수상할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타나, 입학사정관제 전형에서 교외수상을 제외할 경우 이들에 대한 제도적 보완책이 필요한 것으로 드러났다. 이러한 연구결과를 바탕으로 본 연구에서는 교내 수상영역과 리더십 평가의 다각화 및 학교차원의 지원확대 등과 같은 정책적 대안을 제언하였다.

This study analyzes the factors that affect students’ awards record which was identified by Korean high school teachers as the most important criterion for evaluating a student’s potential (Kim et al., 2009) and the experience of officials in school with the aim of showing the inequality in the social structure that is inherent in the extra-curriculum field and presenting a more rational alternative for selecting students in admission officer system. The results of the research show that higher levels of parents’ education and parents’ expectation on the student strongly correlated with probability of receiving awards and the experience of official. In particular, higher level of parent’s participation in school, house income and parents’ education have positive effect on the likelihood of students’ experience of official. In the case of academic achievements, it has static relationship with the awards record and the experience of official in school. In short, students who have higher level of academic achievement and family background also highly achieved in the extra-curriculum field. Nothing but outside school the awards records were found to have a negative relationship with the academic achievement. These results suggest that in order to assure the procedural justice, active government support is needed.
