대학졸업에서 첫 직장까지

Abstract

본 연구는 전국의 대학교 졸업생들을 모집단으로 확률 표본추출방법에 의해 표집된 대규모 설문조사 자료를 분석함으로써 대학생들이 첫 직장으로 진입하는 과정에 영향을 미치는 요인들을 실증적으로 검토하였다. 분석 결과를 보면, 일반적으로 인적자본으로 거론되는 변수들, 그리고 기회구조를 나타내는 변수들 모두 첫 직장으로의 탈출 확률에 통계적으로 유의한 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 더욱 중요한 것은 이러한 변수들이 모두 통제되었을 때, 구직과정에 관한 변수들이 첫 직장 진입에 있어 매우 중요한 역할을 한다는 점이다. 즉, 다른 조건이 동일할 때, 좀 더 빨리 구직을 시작하고 다양한 방법을 동원해 직장을 알아보는 것은 첫 직장을 얻는 데 유의하게 긍정적인 효과를 지니며, 특히 좋은 직장의 경우에는 공식적인 방법을 사용해 구직을 하는 것이 효과적인 것으로 나타났다.

Analyzing a national probability sample on college graduates, this study aims to empirically examine the factors which are presumed to have effect in obtaining the first job. Our analyses find that factors that measure the supply side of labor and the factors that measure the demand side of labor are both important in obtaining the first job. More importantly, however, we find that controlling for these factors, variables on job search method and job search period are also important in obtaining the first job. This implies that universities can also play a role in increasing their graduates' probability of obtaining the first job by playing a more active role in the process through which the supply and demand side of labor get to meet each other.
