공무원 채용 시험 준비생의 진로 선택 경험에 대한 질적 연구

Abstract

이 연구는 청년층이 무엇을 기준으로 직업을 선택하는지, 어떤 영향과 특성이 이 과정에서 작동하는지를 규명함으로써 청년층 진로 선택 과정을 이해하고 진로 교육에 시사점을 얻고자 공무원 채용 시험 준비생들의 경험을 질적으로 분석하였다. 연구 참여자들은 공무원 시험을 노동시장에서의 약자에게도 기회가 열려있는 공정한 경쟁으로 인식하고, 미래를 예측하고 안정적으로 설계할 수 있는 직업을 원하며, 자신을 소진시키지 않고 장기적으로 일할 수 있는 직업을 원하고 있었다. 직업 선택의 기반이 되는 대학 전공은 적성이 아니라 점수에 의해 선택되는데, 이 과정에는 부모의 후원이 강하게 개입하며 자녀의 진학과 취업이 일종의 가족 비즈니스로서 이루어진다는 것을 알 수 있었다. 청년들은 평생 고용가능성을 높이는 것이 중요하다는 점을 인식하고 있었지만, 이를 위해 다양한 가능성에 열린 학습자로 성장하기보다는 자격증 취득을 위한 수험생으로서의 정체성을 강화하고 있는 것으로 나타났다. 이 연구는 청년층의 일의 세계 이행을 그들의 직업 선택을 둘러싼 사회문화적 맥락 속에서 당사자들의 경험에 대한 분석을 통해 이해하고자 했다는 데 의의가 있다.

This qualitative study explores how young adults who prepare for civil service examination choose their career paths and select their jobs. Interview was used to collect rich data for in-depth understanding of their career choice procedures. The findings show that the criteria of job selection are divided into three categories; fairness, job security, and self-caring. Many socio-cultural factors influence their career choice procedures. They chose their college major based on the university entrance exam grade, not on their occupational aptitudes or interests. Strong support from parents about this selection strengthened the tendency, and getting a job is prioritized as a family concern and pursued collectively like a family business. They all recognize that lifelong learning for lifelong employability gets important, but they choose to study hard to get certificates as many as possible rather than developing themselves in various areas.
