직업지위점수를 활용한 대졸자의 노동시장 성과

Abstract

본 연구는 「한국교육고용패널조사Ⅰ」을 활용하여 전문대학 및 일반대학 졸업자의 개인 특성, 부모 직업, 대학 특성 등이 취업 여부뿐만 아니라 첫 일자리의 임금 및 직업지위 점수에 어떠한 영향을 미치는지 실증분석하였다. 주요 결과는 첫째, 부모 직업의 경우 첫 직장 임금에는 영향을 미치지 않지만, 자녀의 직업지위 점수에는 유의하게 영향을 미치는 것으로 나타났다. 이러한 분석 결과는 전문대학 졸업생의 경우 강하게 나타나고 있다. 둘째, 전공별 임금 프리미엄은 의약, 공학 순으로 나타났으며, 이는 직업지위 점수에도 비슷하게 나타난다. 그러나 전문대학과 일반대학 졸업생의 표본을 나누어 분석하였을 때 일반대학 졸업생의 경우 의약계열의 임금 프리미엄만 존재하는 반면, 직업지위 점수는 교육, 공학, 자연계열 순으로 높게 나타난다. 이상의 분석 결과는 부모와 자녀의 직업 간에 세대 이전이 나타나고 있으며, 전공 분야에 따라 높은 임금이 일자리의 질을 담보하는 것은 아니라는 것을 시사한다. 또한 변화하는 산업 구조에 따라 직업지위 점수가 임금 등과 함께 노동시장 성과를 측정하는 하나의 변수로 고려될 수 있음을 제시한다.

We demonstrated how the individual characteristics, family background such as parents’ jobs, and their majors in college or universities affect the international socio-economic index of occupational status(ISEI) as well as their employment. One of our results suggests that parents’ job status does not affect their first job wage, but significantly affects graduates’ ISEI. This result is strongly applicable to the group of college graduates. Second, the wage premium by college major was shown in order of medicine and engineering, which is similar to the ISEI. However, from the anlaysis of graduates’ samples, the wage premium exists only in medicine while ISEI is high in education, engineering, and nature sciences. The above analysis suggests that there exists a generation transfer between parents’ and their children’s jobs, and high wages do not guarantee the quality of jobs depending on the area of their major. It also suggests that a score of ISEI can be considered a variable that measures labor market performance, wages, or decent jobs as the structure of the industry changes.
