상실된 재능 : 부모의 사회경제적 지위와 기대학력의 변화

Abstract

본 연구는 재능의 상실이라는 측면에서 우리사회에 심각한 교육불평등이 있는지 여부를 분석하였다. 재능의 상실은 중학교 3학년에서 고등학교 1학년 사이에 발생한 기대학력의 하강과 기대유지의 실패로 측정하였다. 전국조사자료인 교육고용패널 1,2차자료를 분석한 결과, 기대학력과 기대유지에 있어 상당한 변화가 발견되었다. 표본 중 34.94%의 기대변화가 발생하였으며, 그 중 기대하강이 21.76%, 기대상승이 13.18%였다. 기대유지의 실패는 22.3%에 달하였다. 기대변화에 있어서는 집단별 차이가 발견되지 않았으나 기대유지에 있어서는 유의미한 차이가 발견되었다. 교차분석과 로지스틱회귀분석결과, 성별에 따른 차이는 없었다. 성적에 의하여 기대유지의 실패가 영향을 받으나 이와는 독립적으로 부모의 소득과 교육정도 낮을수록 기대유지의 실패율이 높았다. 재능상실이라는 측면에서 볼 때, 우리사회는 소득과 교육정도에 따른 교육기회의 차별이 엄연히 존재하는 사회이다.

This study aims to find whether this society has severe educational inequality in terms of lost talent. The lost talent was measured both if a student's expected educational level was lowered and if a student failed to maintain his educational expectation in the highschool selection during the period of 2004 base year and the 2005 first follow-up. Analyzing the two waves of nationally representative panel data sets, KEEP, I found that students have experienced a lot of changes in their educational expectation and their highschool selection. There were 34.19% of change in their educational expectation; 21.76% were lowered and 13.18% were escalated. 22.3% of them have failed to keep their educational expectation. No statistically significant outcomes were found in students' educational expectation but their maintenance of educational expectation by social groups. I found significant differences by both household income and father's educational level but by gender in their maintenance of the expectation. These results reveal that this society has an apparent education inequality in terms of lost talent.
