과학기술 잠재적 인재풀의 STEM 경로 유입·지속 현황 및 지원방안 탐색

Abstract

국내에서 과학기술 인재의 개념, 학업 또는 노동시장으로의 진입 현황 등에 관한 연구는 다수 보고되었으나, 과학기술 경로 유입？지속 등에 대한 원인을 밝히는 실증적 연구는 부족하다. 본 연구는 과학기술 잠재적 인재와 성취지표를 개념화하고, 혼합연구법의 설명적 순차 설계를 활용하여 국내 패널데이터의 통계적 분석 결과를 바탕으로 심층면접을 후속으로 시행하여 국내 과학기술 분야 잠재적 인재의 특징과 STEM 경로를 연구한다. 연구 결과, 중등교육 단계에서 이공계 진로를 고려한 학생의 상당수가 성취？동기저하 집단에 속했으며, 실제로 이공계 대학에 진학한 학생의 38%가 부적응 집단으로 분류되었다. 이와 관련하여 수학？과학에 대한 흥미와 심화 교육, 성숙한 진로태도, 다양한 진로탐색 기회 등이 성적, 전공학점 등 구체적 성과만큼 과학기술 분야 진로를 결정하는 주요 요인이며, 국내 과학기술 진로를 희망하는 학생들이 경험할 수 있는 학업 및 진로탐색 기회의 다양성과 심화 정도의 미흡이 이공계 유입 어려움의 주요 원인이 될 수 있다. 연구의 결과를 종합하여 과학기술 인재의 STEM 경로 유입과 지속에 관련한 쟁점을 정리하고 정책 방안을 도출하였다.

Despite extensive studies on the conceptualization and the trends of the science and technology talent pool and its entrance into the labor market, empirical studies of investigating the reasons for entry and persistence in science, technology, engineering, and mathematics (STEM) paths have yet to be sufficiently published in Korea.
