PBL 참여 경험이 대학생의 학습전략과 협력에 미치는 영향

Abstract

본 연구는 한국교육고용패널조사Ⅱ(KEEPⅡ)에서 수집한 3차년도(2019년)와 4차년도(2020년) 데이터를 활용하여 일반대학 재학생의 프로젝트 기반 학습(Project-Based Learning, 이하 PBL) 참여 경험이 이들의 학습전략 사용과 협력에 미치는 영향에 대해 분석하였다. 구체적으로 PBL 참여 경험 등에 대해 성실히 응답한 일반대학 대학생 2,901명을 대상으로 최종 분석하였으며, 통상최소자승회귀분석을 실시하되 조사자료 활용 시 발생 가능한 표본선택문제를 최소화하고자 경향점수를 산출하여 이를 역확률가중치로 활용하였다. 주요 분석 결과는 다음과 같다. 첫째, 일반대학 학생이 서울소재 대학에 재학하고, 자연계열보다는 인문계열 학생이, 월평균생활비를 많이 지출할수록, 직전년도에 여럿이 함께 전공 공부한 시간이 많을수록, 보유하고 있는 자격증 수가 많을수록 PBL 수업에 참여할 가능성이 높은 것으로 나타났다. 둘째, PBL 경험이 있는 학생의 경우, 재학 중인 대학의 소재지나 전공계열, 월평균생활비와 직전년도 평균평점을 통제한 후에도 자기이해 수준이 높거나 학과만족도가 높을수록 PBL 수업에 대한 만족도가 높아졌다. 마지막으로 PBL참여 경험이 이들의 학습전략 사용에 미치는 영향을 분석한 결과 경향점수를 역확률가중치로 활용하여 선택편의를 조정한 것과 무관하게 유의한 정적 영향을 확인할 수 있었고, 반면 협력에 미치는 영향은 유의하지 않은 것으로 나타났다. 이상의 내용을 토대로 대학생의 PBL 참여 경험이 지속적인 학습전략 사용으로 이어져 향후 대학생의 협력 수준에도 의미 있는 성과를 가져올 수 있도록 하는 논리를 개발하기 위한 후속 연구를 제언하였다.

This study analyzed the impact of university students’ experience of participating in project-based learning(PBL) on their use of learning strategies and collaboration using data from the third(2019) and fourth(2020) years of the Korea Education and Employment Panel Survey II (KEEP II). Specifically, the final analysis was conducted on 2,901 students who responded in good faith about their experiences in PBL, and although a least squares regression analysis was conducted, in order to minimize sample selection problems that may occur when using the survey data, propensity scores were calculated and used as an inverse probability weighting. The main findings of the analysis are as follows: First, we found that university students were more likely to participate in a PBL if they were enrolled in a university in Seoul, if they were in the humanities rather than the natural sciences, if they spent more money on their average monthly living expenses, if they spent more time studying with other students in the previous year, and if they had more certifications. Second, for students with PBL experience, higher levels of self-understanding and departmental satisfaction were associated with higher levels of satisfaction with the PBL, even after controlling for university location, major, average monthly cost of living, and previous year’s GPA. Finally, we analyzed the impact of the PBL experience on their use of learning strategies and found a significant positive effect, independent of adjusting for selection bias using propensity scores as inverse probability weighting, while the effect on collaboration was not significant. Based on the above, we recommend further research to develop a logic that university students’ experience of participating in PBL can lead to their continued use of learning strategies, which in turn can lead to meaningful outcomes on their level of collaboration.
