Analysis of Current Employees’ Perception and Experience of Soft Skills and Training

Soft skills refer to a person's abilities to effectively perform work independently or in cooperation with others, such as characteristics, habits, and attitudes. Soft skills which are also called socio-emotional skills, people skills, or power skills are distinguished from "hard skills”or“technical skills.”KRIVET surveyed corporate employees in their 20s~50s on their "perception”and "training experience”of soft skills and analyzed the implications. According to our findings, a relatively high ratio of workers, 30~37% depending on job categories, responded soft skills account for 65% or more out of the skills required at workplaces, whereas they rated the "importance” of soft skills and "competencies they have”relatively low. About 51% of the respondents are found to have received training on soft skills. Given that digital transformation requires more sophisticated soft skills, it is necessary to enhance workers' perception of the concept and importance of soft skills and provide training customized to different job categories.
